annotation2 Buying lottery tickets for hope and fulfill the desire

In the article: Psychology of Poverty: Why Poor People Buy Lottery Tickets; it talks about a research which compares the action and desire for buying lottery tickets with income. It was interesting how the researchers differentiate between the rich and the poor. They want the participants to decide whether they are rich or poverty by themselves. The researchers influenced participants' perceptions of their relative wealth — or lack thereof — by having them complete a survey on their opinions of the city of Pittsburgh that included an item on annual income. The group made to feel poor was asked to provide its income on a scale that began at "less than $100,000" and went upward from there in $100,000 increments, ensuring that most respondents would be in the lowest income category. The group made to feel subjectively wealthier was asked to report income on a scale that began with "less than $10,000" and increased in $10,000 increments, leading most respondents to be in a middle or upper tier. After participants completed their survey, participants, who were recruited at Pittsburgh's Greyhound Bus terminal, were paid $5 for completing the survey and given the opportunity to buy as many as five scratch-off lottery tickets. The experimental group purchased an average of 1.27 lottery tickets, compared with 0.67 tickets bought by the members of the control group.
Comparing people who thought that they were poor with those who thought they were wealthy, ''the poor'' got double chance then ''the rich'' to buy lottery tickets. However, is there really having such difference between 'the rich' and 'the poor'? No, it was the way that the researcher controls participant's psychology. After reading this article, I think that the point of view how people conclude themselves is by comparing themselves with others. It is impossible that every one can be a millionaire or make profit as much as a chairman who manages a huge company. People used to look up to their goal, but the goal is too far away from their own conditions, they feel that they are poverty because the targets are too hard to get. Isn't it a kind of poverty that comes from human being's psychology?
According to the U.S. lottery management statistics in the United States, every year at least eight of the one million U.S. dollars and 10 million dollars prize of the "lottery millionaire", have now been returned to the starting point. Another track data also pointed out that big lottery jackpot winner, as the millionaire's life of an average of 7 to 8 years, that is, after eight years, the majority of lottery winners are bankrupt, and the final life is worse then he got first prize before. The man who won the firsr prize must got enough money to live his life, why he finally lost his fortune in the end? Money can not satisfy people, we always want more and cannot satisfy with what we have already owned. Psychology of poverty hunting people in their mind!

Issue Paper 1st Draft

After discussing with teacher and classmates last week, I found that my issue was too large for me to research. What I really want to discuss and the video I was intereating in were about poverty and didn't have any connect with crime. So I decide to focus on poverty.
When we were young, our parents always wished us and also, taught us to be a person who was ''successful''. What was the meaning of  ''successful''? Most of them may give us an answer: To being rich. On top of that, I take a course about the meaning of Buddhism literature in this semester. When teacher was talking about karma, he said that the every decisions and choices we make in our life will decide what kind of life will we live after we reborn again. The example of that different life he told us was: rich or poverty.  Many news about doctors’ overwork which caused their death gradually be heard. Their family members cried out for hospital's fatal system which caused their dearly relative had to work over ten hours a day and finally death of overwork themselves. There was another example for doctors' overwork which made them loose their health. A doctor suddenly  had apoplexy when he was giving an operation to his patient, after his awake, he could not recognize  his wife who has a son with him. His wife asked hospital for 38 million NT dollors to indemify their lost. She thought that the reason which caused his husband's apoplexy was overwork. Why should they work so hard, and why people are always desire for being rich?
In the video I shared before:  Muhammad Yunus- Grameen Bank, Yunus talked about poverty problem in Bangladesh. I was interesting in his idea about Grameen Bank, I first read the information  about his idea about poverty was in an economic weekly periodocal. Yunus got Nobel Piece Prize that year and he gave people a new principle about poverty. He thought that the poor was not willing to being poor, what cause their poverty was the society and justice that was judged by the nation with power and fortune. When I first read this word, I got a question: If basic life conditions cause people in undeveloped country desire for money, for us, people live in developed country with sufficient substance life style, why we always desire for money, power and space? Do we really need such lots of money to prevent ourselves from being poor?
Face the question about why we work so hard to giant money? Some may answer that they don't want to fall in the circle of poverty. I don't think that was the real reason, the truth of keeping pursue material life is that people  will never satisfy with what they have already own. The true poverty is not their life; the true poverty is in their heart- their psychological poverty. In this society, fashion, brand and luxury are advocated by celebrities and media. People keep working hard for money and fortune just for earning their 'space'. Not only house or the place to live but also the power space which can give them a title of their fame like doctor who or professor who; and also, the boss. I will discuss some conditions from book and news to support my idea of psychological poverty.

Muhammad Yunus : Poverty was not created by the poor

annotation1 what is the real poverty?

Why people keep working hard for money? The true poverty in this society. In this society, people keep working hard for money. But, why people always desires for fortune and power? Do we really need such lots of money to prevent from being poor? Many news about doctors’ overworks which cause their death gradually be heard, on top of that, some areas in Africa which once to be the colonies are always in the condition of poverty. They do not have any vacant lot to plant foods, every area in their country were used to plant for economical crops like cotton and hemp. Human being works so hard to giant their fortune not for the short of substance, but for their true poverty of their psychology- they will never satisfied with what they have already own.
In the video which Muhammad Yunus talked about Grameen Bank, he makes an example by being a slave to explain how terrible the economy condition in Bangladesh. That woman was willing to accept this kind of deal to exchange for money; she was in force to do that because of the poverty that may cause her family’s starvation. When I see this video, I thought that not only she, but all of us were the slave for fortune. But the different between people in developed country and that woman is the reason they desired for money. That woman needed money to get some food and maintained her basic life, hoe about people in developed country, why they also became the slave of money? Do they short of food? No, it was because they didn’t satisfied with their life and always desired for more power and more space to live.

The source of the crime- the relationship between poverty and crime.

Some people may seem that poverty is the most important reason that causes crimes and security problems, but, is that the reality source of the crime?  I do not really think so. When we read the newspaper or get some criminal  imformations from news, we can easily find  some criminals that committed crimes with great education backgrounds and wonderful incomes. I will find some evdiences or consepts from book- Russian literature ''Crime and Punishment'' and some vedio to analyze the relationship between poverty and crime. I do not mean that poverty will not causes the crime, but I do not agree that proverty is equal to capable of commit the crime.
